If there’s one statement that can rile up Dr. Gwendolyn Goldsby Grant, it’s that. The nationally-known psychologist and Essence magazine columnist hears it frequently on national computer dating service advertisements, and confesses she can barely contain herself.

“I don’t believe in 50-50 relationships - that you’re half a person until you connect with the other 50 percent … like there are two half people walking around, hoping to run into each other. You’re already a whole person, and a healthy relationship is one that enhances that feeling. Coming into a relationship with a positive feeling, instead of a negative half-person feeling, creates a market for better living, better loving and a better relationship,” she explains.

Grant will make her first appearance in Iowa at the Speaking of Women’s Health “Ladies Night Out” event May 16 at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, hosted by Covenant Foundation. Nicknamed “the Energizer” for her motivational style of speaking, Grant will share how to restore healthy lifestyles and elevate self-esteem.
